I always used to play Tag when I was young, though we called it ‘Tiggie’ or ‘Tig’. Tig was a great, fun way to spend time with my friends and expend energy (which, no doubt, my mum appreciated). Nowadays, I wonder if it’s anywhere near as popular with children – after all, it doesn’t need a console, the internet or a stylus to play it!
So what has happened since last we met? Well, the wonderful Shaun Allan tagged me this week and I’m more than happy to revert to my childhood (given half the chance) as I love to play along.
For the purposes of this game, Shaun has given me four questions to answer so here goes!
What are you working on right now?
I’m currently up to my eyeballs editing the last book of the ‘Magic Trilogy’ called Defenders of Magic. I am trying to get the book published by Christmas and I am on a very tight schedule (she says doing a blog hop). The book cover is also finished and all I can say is … WOW! It looks tremendous and I am so very pleased with it. I am just waiting for the painting to dry and then I can get the title written on the digital image. The actual manuscript will go off to the editor this week so it’s all systems go. The last book has most definitely been the hardest to write but there are even more twists and turns and a very shocking revelation too which NO ONE will guess, (I hope)! Keep watching this space to find out more!
How does it differ from other works in its genre?
I think the difference with my books to others in the fantasy genre is that the whole thing is an unusual storyline. I’ve tried to make the story fresh, yet intriguing. At the very beginning, a mortal newborn infant dies only to be replaced with my protagonist. It’s a very dark beginning and a wicked witch is involved. The three books follow the journey of Crystal who has no idea her natural parents are immortals and she is raised in our world by a single parent.
The second book, (Betrayers of Magic) well, that’s more about the Extraordinary World, where you will find the Kingdom of Nine Winters and also the valley of Ravens Rainbow. In these wonderful realms you will learn about Niculmus DeGrunt an apprentice who is not quite what he seems and a changeling called ‘Clump’ who will steal more than your heart away.
In the third book, (Defenders of Magic) I have finally woven all those tantalising threads together, and created a book which I hope will take your breath away, so, whatever you do, don’t miss the final chapter of Crystal’s amazing story.
Why do you write what you do?
It’s simple, it’s what fills my head. I love magic and mystery and enjoy all those little exciting flutters you get when you read about spells and magic potions. Fantasy is a great genre where you can decide what happens with just a puff of smoke. Yes, without doubt, this is defiantly the best genre for me.
How does your writing process work?
I try to write every day. Even if it ends up only being a paragraph, I still write. If I’m on a roll, I’ll write for at least four hours non- stop and always find the time at weekends.
